- 1 cup luke warm milk(Dairy/ plant based)
- 1/4 cup oil/butter/ghee
- 1/4 cup jaggery powder
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Zest of 1 orange
- 2 1/4 teaspoon / 1 packet active yeast
For Cross

- 1/4 cup plain flour
- 3-4 tablespoon water
For Glaze

- 2 tablespoon jaggery powder/sugar
- 2 tablespoon water
Recipe
- Warm the milk and add the active yeast to it. Let it sit for a few minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, jaggery powder, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground cloves, and salt.
- Add the frothy yeast mixture, oil/butter/ghee, and orange zest to the dry ingredients. Mix well to form a dough.
- Knead the dough for about 10 minutes. You can add raisins and knead or you add raisins before making into ball. You can add few drops of oil to avoid drying.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- After the dough has risen, punch it down and you can add raisins. and divide it into equal-sized balls. Place them on a greased baking tray, cover again, and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a small bowl, mix the plain flour and water to form a paste for the cross. Pipe this mixture onto the buns in the shape of a cross.
- Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they turn golden brown.
- While the buns are baking, prepare the glaze by dissolving the jaggery powder/sugar in water over low heat. Brush the glaze over the warm buns as soon as they come out of the oven.
